There are less than ten days until the most exciting motocross event of the year - the Motocross of Nations. Featuring two 2012 champions (Jeffrey Herlings and Antonio Cairoli) getting a chance to go head-to-head, plus a line-up of racers that containing the best MX riders in the world, which team will emerge victorious is anyones guess. 

Team USA might have walked away with the win for the last seven years but the level of competition means there are no safe bets. We cant wait...

Oh and note - the track is actually still being worked on, so de Reuver is only actually practising half of the track here. We hope the other half has got some of the jumps in!

2012 Shift MX Freeride Tour!

If we had to use one word to describe this video, that word would probably be "Wheeeeeeeeee!" - damn those guys seems to be getting serious air time!

Last year, the guys from Shift MX loaded up a bus with a bunch of riders and headed out to the Glamis Dunes in California for a fun trip that eventually turned into their popular #SANDBOX video. This year, they decided they had such a good time they would do it again - bigger!

Welcome then the Shift Ride On Tour, which has now evolved into a five-stop freeride event travelling across the US, with a bus full of athletes including Bilko Williams, Carey Hart, Josh Hill, Jeff Emig and more. By the sounds of things, the idea is to just turn up, hang around with the riders and have an awesome freeride session!

This particular video was filmed at the Oregon Dunes and if the action there was anything to go by, the rest of the tour is going to be a heck of a lot of fun!

Ricky Carmichael Reveals 2012 Monster Energy Cup Track

So, with the exciting and unpredictable MXoN done and dusted (hands up who lost some bets over the weekend?) the next big thing on the MX calendar is the Monster Energy Cup race on 20th October.

For those of you who dont know already, the Monster Energy Cup is an event with a quarter of million winners prize and the potential to win a bonus $1 million for coming first in all three races - enough to attract some of the biggest names in motocross. Including, amongst many others, the highly anticipated return of Chad Reed, who will be riding competitively for the first time since his Supercross accident in February .

What also makes the event exciting is the fact that the course has been designed with input than the GOAT himself, Ricky Carmichael.

The Monster Energy Cup is designed around a racing format, featuring a three-stage, 30-lap main event. The new format incorporates three main events, where riders will take part in three races. The event will feature a one-class format, offering riders the option of the bike of their choice, including 250-450cc four strokes or 125cc and 250cc two strokes.

The huge, unique, hybrid track will consist of supercross/motocross terrain and will have a motocross-style influence, making it unlike any other stadium race in the world. Features of the circuit include split starting lines, a huge, banked Talladega turn and a controversial, time-sapping Joker lane, which every rider must use at least once.

With a million bucks on the line, a track unlike any other and confirmed riders including Villopoto, Dungey, Barcia, Roczen, Reed, Musquin, Windham and more, the Monster Energy Cup certainly has all the ingredients for some fun...

Who says that these MTB competitions needs to be complicated? Simply set up an old ramp, slap a Red Bull sticker on it and let entrants simply ride down and fly off it into the sea.

That seems to be the entire concept behind the Summer Water Jump competition, held at Paul do Mar in Madeira at the end of September. We cant say it requires a huge amount of technical ability but perhaps thats why we like it...

2012 Red Bull Rampage The Finals

Ive come to the conclusion after watching a bunch of downhill videos that these MTB guys are even bigger maniacs than FMX riders. Although Ive been told that the Rampage course is actually more carefully created than first appearances might suggest, it still seems like freestyle with less padding, less planning and far more faith in nature and the strength of your own legs. Let me know some of your thoughts!

Anyway, this highlight video has been taken from the finals of this years Red Bull Rampage, which was eventually won by Canadian Kurt Sorge with a ballsy run full of daring tricks. Check it out!

Tom Pages Voted Best International Freestyle Motocross Rider In 2012 FMX Awards

With a string of consistently impressive performances around the world, it will come as little surprise to learn that French FMX star Tom Pages has been voted Best International Freestyle Motocross Rider for 2012 by the readers of www.fmxawards.com.

Picking up 35.3% of the votes, Pages was a clear winner over New Zealander Levi Sherwood, who ranked second with 23.7% of the votes. He was also awarded the position of Best European Rider and narrowly missed out the award for Best FMX Trick Innovation after his Special Flip move was edged out by Taka Higashinos Rock Solid Backflip.

The users also voted Higashino Best Asian FMX Rider, putting him on a par with Pages with two first places to his name.

Elsewhere German Luc Ackermann was voted Best European FMX Rookie and Best German FMX Rookie, while his elder brother Hannes Ackermann picked up his second consecutive award for Best German FMX Rider.

As in 2011, Nate Adams was named Best American FMX Rider. On the other side of the globe Josh Sheehan took Best Australian FMX Rider.

Considering her profile and worldwide tours with Nitro Circus, it might perhaps come as a shock to learn that Canadian Jolene van Vught lost our to Aussie Emma McFerran for the newly-created title of Best Female FMX Rider. Although, as McFerran has been known to perform some of her tricks, er, sans kit, we think that may have attracted a couple of votes...
